Learn about our AI Model
Camera Imaging
Health Check uses a method called Photoplethysmography (PPG) to capture your blood flow signal. As your heart beats, it forces blood out to the rest of your body. Arteries, the tubes that carry blood, are slightly elastic and expand to accept the blood from your heart.
Light from your phone’s flash shines into your finger, bounces off of your arteries, and is reflected into the smartphone camera. By taking a video of your finger, the camera can see the expansion and contraction of your arteries. This is called the blood volume signal (or blood flow signal).
Artificial Intelligence (A.I. Model)
Most organ systems in the body can modify your blood flow. For example, the cardiovascular system can adjust blood pressure, the endocrine system can affect the inner lining of your arteries, and more. Thus, by analyzing your blood flow signal with A.I., we can estimate metrics about your health.
After we capture your blood flow signal, it is passed through an A.I. model to produce health and wellness metrics like heart rate. Our A.I. model uses state of the art deep learning, a branch of A.I. that can most effectively make use of large datasets.
To train our A.I. model, we collected data from participants from across the world including the USA, India, and Cameroon. The result is an A.I. model capable of producing the health and wellness metrics that you see in this app.
